A recent study has revealed that an increasing number of burglaries are taking place as a bid to steal personal documents from homes. The study that was commissioned to be carried out by a home insurance provider revealed this shocking piece of information. Furthermore, the findings go on to elaborate that one seventh of all UK houses that have been burgled so far had their personal or official documents stolen. Sensitive information, articles and documents such as credit cards, bank statement and passports were stolen by these burglars.
The home insurance company that carried out the research also revealed that these personal and official documents were sold by bundles in the black market for an asking price of £150.
The managing director for home insurance at the company is now urging homeowners to heed caution. He said that in an environment that was full of identity fraud cases, homeowners should take much needed measures to protect their documents from getting targeted by thieves.
He also cautioned homeowners to ensure that they stash away their important documents in places such that burglars cannot reach them in case of a break in. If possible, the best thing to do would be to stash them away separately.
