Health Insurance - Health Insurance-no one wants me! - 27/04/2008

In the busy world we live in it’s becoming increasingly common to suffer from stress, anxiety and depression, but are these covered under health insurance policies? Health insurance is based on your individual medical history and more insurers are putting those who suffer from the above in the high risk section. This means the price you pay will be higher and some companies will refuse to insure you altogether.

In 2001 Karen Pollitz a Georgetown university researcher co-authored a study into the individual health insurance market; the study found that roughly 90% of people applying for health insurance who had a pre-existing health problem paid higher rates and some 37% were denied insurance cover.

All health insurance providers look at past medical history, pre-existing problems and ongoing illnesses to calculate the likelihood of you making a claim in the future.

As health insurers want to avoid paying out high claims, if you have a pre existing health problem and are looking for insurance the best advice is look around for the best quote and make sure you read the terms and condition before signing on the dotted line.
