Proving that there is more than one Ramsay capable of taking the UK by storm, Ramsay health care has continued it’s foray into the UK health care market with it’s latest purchase of BMI Nottingham hospital.
Yes, forget the ubiquitous swearing ex footballer turned chef, Gordon Ramsay, for a second and you have the Aussie health care provider of the same name looking to make a similar impact, only in the health care world this time.
Ramsay, Australia’s biggest private hospital operator, agreed to buy the 41-bed Nottingham hospital for an undisclosed amount after competition laws forced British-based General Healthcare Group to divest its recently acquired portfolio of Nuffield Hospitals.
The acquisition of BMI Nottingham brings Ramsay's total British operations to 23 hospitals and clinics.
Ramsay managing director Pat Grier said the company would consider further acquisitions following an increase in referrals from the British National Health Service.
"With its stable private medical insurance market and significant opportunities from outsourcing of National Health Services to the private sector, the British market presents tremendous growth opportunities for Ramsay.
"Nottingham will increase Ramsay's geographic coverage in Britain and strengthen Ramsay's overall private hospital offering in Britain," Mr Grier said.
