A couple who were found dead in their home in Wales with a length of electric cable tied round both of their necks are believed to have killed themselves over the shame they felt due to their mounting debts.
Harry and Jane Tidswell were married for fifteen years before the tragedy which happened in February this year. They did not have any children together.
Mr Tidswell, aged 64 was a self employed architect, while Mrs Tidswell, aged 54, was a was a chemist assistant at Neville Chemist in Craig-y-Don, Llandudno.
Mrs Tidswell's brother, John Gregory, described the couple as very proud and said that at Christmas they had been forced to explain to the family that they would not be giving out presents that year due to serious financial difficulties.
However, over the Christmas period, they still ended up borrowing over £1,000 from Mrs Tidswell's 86 year old father.
It was Mrs Tidswell's brother who first noticed that something was wrong when he called round having not heard from them in a while. Spotting mounted up post and his sister's handbag he called the police.
Upon entering the police found the two bodies in the hallway.
At the inquest, the court heard the couple described by various friends and family as proud, private and reclusive people.
The coroner said that they were “intrinsically proud” and as a result may feel the “shame of debt”.
He added in this case: “It’s a measure of the depth of their worry and despair that they did what they did.”
A friend at the Llandudno Conservative Club which they frequented, said: “They were a popular couple and people liked them. They came in here for years. She would have a drink and he would often play on the (one armed) bandit machine.”
