Debt - Unbiased.co.uk: New Year's resolutions fall by the wayside - 13/02/2008

New Years resolutions made by debt solutions-seeking Britons are being broken already, research from Unbiased.co.uk shows.

While 68 per cent have made a resolution, the website found, just three quarters are sticking to their promise.

Financial resolutions - including those linked to personal debts - are only slightly more likely to be maintained, with 18 per cent having already been given up on.

A total of 19 per cent pledged to reduce their debts for the New Year - compared to the 41 per cent wishing to fight the flab and the 32 per cent who wanted to up their exercise regime.

Commenting on the research, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk David Elms said: "It is encouraging to see how many people intend to get their finances in order in 2008, however it is all too easy to let good intentions go to waste.

"Setting manageable goals and seeking professional independent advice from an independent financial adviser could encourage you to persevere with your resolutions and improve your finances."
