Church launches debt campaign - 09/01/2008

Personal debt levels in the UK have become so serious that the Church of England has stepped in, launching an advice campaign to counter the problem.
A ten-point "debt check" was launched by the Church this week, mapping out the many ways in which Britons spend more than they can afford.
Not forgetting its spiritual responsibilities, the Matter of Life and Debt initiative also publicises verses from the Bible and prayers in order to provide reassurance and consolation to debtors.
After, all we should "let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another," according to Romans 13:8.
On a more earthly plane, people in debt are advised to get a grip on their finances by showing a more responsible attitude to their spending.
Around 18 per cent of British adults hold unsecured debts of over £10,000.
Levels of personal debt in the UK also run to a total of £1.4 trillion, latest statistics show.
