Seven people have been arrested after a massive $6 million credit card fraud racket was smashed by the police in Australia.
According to report five men were arrested in Sydney and two others were apprehended in Melbourne over a scam involving the making and circulation of more than 200 fake credit cards a week.
The culprits reportedly used personal details stolen within and outside the country to perpetuate the crime.
People’s personal details in the UK, Spain, Malaysia as well as in Australia were said to have been fraudulently obtained and used by the syndicate to produce fake credit cards, Medicare cards and driving licences in Australia.
The cards were eventually used by syndicate shoppers to make purchases of $500,000 worth of items each week.
They also used the fake driving licence and Medicare cards as secondary information to back up the bogus credit cards.
Meanwhile, the police are urging people to report any suspicious credit card activity.
