Credit Cards - Hacker fraudster seized by Police for stealing 50,000 credit cards - 01/07/2008

A Dutch hacker was recently arrested in Maastricht for stealing information from 50,000 credit cards and using it to steal funds. The man also allegedly hacked into the computer system of a US game developer and stole a copy of the Sony Entertainment game Enemy Territory: Quake Wars while it was still being made.

It has been alleged that the man got the credit card information by breaching the security of a UK ticket agency and he then used the card data to make online purchases. The figure he spent is unknown but the costs incurred due to infrastructure damage total $20 million. It is thought that further crimes which have as yet gone un-investigated may also have been committed by this man.

In a police search of the hacker’s home a gun and a computer were seized, further questioning and computer forensics will be undertaken to prove the man is the culprit before he is charged for fraud.
