Hackers steal credit card details of 38,000 customers - 12/06/2008

It has been reported that the credit card details of around 38,000 customers were stolen from the clothing company Cotton Traders after it had been attacked by hackers online.
Cotton Traders are yet to confirm the actual size of the breach, but have acknowledged that they were victims of a hacker.
They then contacted Barclay card and Barclay card acted as quick as they could and cancelled most of the cards.
The company Cotton Traders was founded by ex-England rugby captains Fran Cotton and Steve Smith.
In a statement, that was releases by Cotton Traders it said that all of its customers' credit card data was encrypted on the website. But were then faced with a security issue:
"Earlier this year we identified a security issue. We immediately brought in industry security experts to resolve the problem.
"Cotton Traders have recently upgraded all security on their website which has been validated by leading Industry experts."
It added: "We would like to reassure all our customers that their data is secure and that the Cotton Traders website meets all leading Industry security standards."
It has also been reported by the BBC that customer addresses were also stolen during the hack. Cotton Traders are not the only firm who have fallen prey to hackers, as last year the webpage of another clothing firm TK Maxx had around 45 million card details stolen from them.
No one actually knows what the exact method was used break into the Cotton Traders webpage, but the company has stated that if there are still customers who are worried about their cards, they should contact their card companies for peace of mind.
