The chief executive of the beleaguered credit card provider Egg is to step down after tendering his resignation.
Ian Kerr will now be replaced by Bert Pijls at the bank, which has been mired in controversy recently.
Egg recently cancelled the cards of seven per cent of its customers - following what it termed a risk review.
However, many of the 161,000 who were cut off have since alleged that, far from borrowing recklessly from the firm and representing a credit risk, they paid off their balances each month.
In turn, this has led to accusations that the internet bank cancelled the cards for profit reasons - as it was making less money from these careful customers.
Reacting to the news, Nigel Griffiths MP - who has previously criticised the gold credit card company - said: "Egg presided over a PR disaster, withdrawing cards from thousands of perfectly respectable customers and failing to give full and honest reasons."
The bank denied that the resignation had anything to do with the recent risk review, the Press Association reports.
