Abbey: Britain's retired 'feel younger' - 29/10/2007
|
Britain's retired population are feeling younger than ever, new research from Abbey suggests.
The study shows that retirees up and down the country are planning to live it up after their working life finishes - with 44 per cent already plotting a world trip with their savings.
On average, retirees felt 16 years younger than their real age - and one-third still felt attractive to the opposite sex.
Just under one in five are also planning a "once in a lifetime" experience, such as hot air ballooning in the Serengeti or swimming with dolphins, the financial services firm found.
However, it is advised that such fun pursuits do not come at the expense of more practical spending such as health and life insurance payments.
Head of savings at Abbey Reza Attar-Zadeh said: "We all need to think carefully about our retirement and make sure were saving up enough money every month to fully enjoy the autumn and winter of our lives."
Abbey warned, however, that their research also showed that many Britons are not saving enough to fulfil their dreams - with only 48 per cent having enough in the bank.
The impact on other financial demands such as life insurance premiums was not measured.
