Credit card bought petrol more costly? - 16/06/2008
|
It has been rumored that BP petrol stations are charging more for purchases made via credit cards such as the Chase BP Visa card, even though the card supposedly gives a 5% discount on such purchases.
One customer asked for an explanation from the petrol station owner who’s station he frequented and was informed that it was all due to a hike in credit transaction fees.
When I told him that I would report his station to BP and to Chase Bank, he said, 'Screw you! I don't care, report me. They are the ones charging us more money for the transactions.'
It could be that BP stations are charging more to cancel out the 5% discount on cards such as the Chase BP card, or simply that they are actually being charged more themselves and therefore the rise is a necessity. Either way, any offers by credit cards promising cheaper petrol costs can be seen as almost worthless when the rise if all around cost is taken into consideration.
