Credit card companies should not be asking customers for any extra evidence when they are claiming for lost money while they are shopping abroad.
The UK trade association for the payments sector, APACS, have said that the companies should already have a record of the transaction on the statement. The customer would therefore just need to flag this up with their card company who will be able to tell them what their next steps should be.
Mark Bowerman, APACS spokesman said there needed to be clarity on section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. This ruling passed by the House of Lords in October last year allows UK consumers to be protected when purchasing items between the value of £100 and £30,000 on their credit cards when overseas.
Bowerman stressed the point that section 75 only covers money that has been lost through transactions by the card holder and isn't to be confused with protection against losses as a result of credit card fraud.
