The Church of England has stepped in to help millions of Britons out of debt.
The church’s website, www.cofe.anglican.org, has introduced a section often practical advice and religious guidance for those in debt.
It includes information on people in debt, a guide to get out of it, and biblical references to the problems it can cause.
“It was a practical idea to do something that was not just for church people or Christians, not just in religious language but accessible to everyone,” a Church of England spokesman said.
“One of the great things about the church is that it can take on any issue and get into people's lives. It can take the wisdom from the Bible and help people to make good decisions.”
The site claims that 8.2 million people in the UK have more then £10,000 of unsecured credit, with a further 2 million unsure how much debt they are actually in.
It quotes Romans 13:8 as an inspiration for climbing out of debt: “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another.”
