Finjan, the Internet security firm, have located an online supermarket for the purchase of illegally acquired debit and credit card data by thieves.
The website is called SellCVV2, based on the 3-digit security number on card signature strips and which permit criminals to pick up large quantities of stolen credit car data. It is thought by Finjan, that online Trojan Spyware software was used to obtain the data although this has not yet been proven.
These can be purchased from $10 for low limit cards, to $38 for higher limit credit cards.
SellCVV2 mimics legal commerce but allowing customers to gain reductions when they buy in bulk and promising ‘guarantees’ and product trials to clients who are uncertain.
“If further proof were needed that there is a very serious problem facing the card acceptance and processing industry, this is it. The level of sophistication shown on the site acts as a clear warning to anyone who thinks card fraud is a containable problem,” said Yuval Ben-Itzhak, CTO of Finjan.
