UK motorists risk facing hefty bills up to £300 million a year by failing to check their oil regularly, it has been revealed.
Auto care firm, Comma has warned car insurance customers that insurance claims could be reduced by simply checking under the bonnet of the vehicle.
According to research conducted by the firm, motorists do not take vehicle maintenance seriously.
Figures found that 60 per cent of motorists check their oil levels every two months with 10 per cent admitting to not checking their oil levels at all.
Comma highlighted that motorists who fail to check their oil levels could find themselves paying thousands of pounds to repair the damage caused by a lack of lubrication.
To raise more awareness of the importance of checking oil levels, the firm is introducing the launch of the Nation Oil Check Week which will take place from June 15th.
The firm said: “If the oil looks low on the dipstick, you're almost certainly on the way to avoiding a breakdown by checking and topping up correctly; and if it looks about right, you can have peace of mind motoring - for the time being.”
