Car insurance claims have dramatically increased this week following the snowfall which has hit most parts of UK, and the Met Office has warned that it could get worse.
According to the AA car insurance, British motorists are not familiar with driving in icy conditions as a result, the insurer predicts that it would receive an estimated 3,000 claims up from the average 1,700 normally registered.
The AA also says that Monday was the busiest day with their claims department receiving reports of drivers who slid on ice into walls, trees and lamp posts, and crashing the car into the back of another vehicle.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: “the claims are blowing in with the same force as the blizzards", and urges drivers to "think twice before setting out on their journey where there are severe weather conditions: it's just not worth risking losing your no-claim bonus.”
Additionally, Esure car insurance registered a rise in claims following 100 per cent increase in snow-related claims by 11 o'clock on Monday morning.
However, the older driver has not been hard hit by the bad weather compared to the younger motorist as data from the over 50s insurer Saga car insurance shows there was no rise in claims on Monday.
