Police in Leeds have begun a new programme to help drivers fight against crime by handing them free cloths. This could hopefully reduce the number of car insurance claims made in the city.
Officers are advising motorists with satnavs to make sure they wipe away any suction marks left by the devices on dashboards or windscreens when leaving their car unattended.
Police believe that this will reduce the chances of being targeted by thieves. Sergeant Paul Cliff from West Yorkshire Police said drivers should remove any trace of their satnav and take it with them.
Sergeant Cliff acknowledged that this will take a few extra minutes but this little bit of extra work is "nothing against the cost and inconvenience of having your car broken into".
The giveaway is due to take place today outside Morrisons supermarket in Bramley. Police in the area have also begun their campaign against drink driving this Christmas.
