Motorists have been advised to secure their no-claims bonuses as this can be their way towards cheaper car insurance premiums, says the insurance provider, RIAS.
In the present economic climate, motorists are experiencing greater financial strain, however having a no claims bonus, can knock off, up to 75 per cent of the premiums that you will need to pay in a year.
The company did state, that it can take up to five years to build up the maximum no claims bonus, however they warned that this can be “undone in seconds”, as even if a driver is involved in an accident that is not their fault, they can lose some or all of their no claims bonus.
RIAS managing director Janet Connor, comments: "Although drivers are fully aware of the importance of building up and maintaining their no claims bonus, not many are aware of the various ways of protecting or safe-guarding it.”
The insurer also advised motorists to drive safely at all times and to be aware of the rules of the road. They also added that in the event of an accident, a motorist should consider paying for repairs themselves, if it means they can keep their no claims bonus intact.
