If car insurance companies knew what their customers got up to they would not be happy! It has been revealed that three-quarters of UK drivers admitted to speeding on a regularly basis because they are confident that they will not get caught.
23% of drivers claimed that they speed a few times a week, compared to 19% who said they speed every day. Surprisingly, only 27% of the interviewees said they have never broken the speed limit.
David Neave director of an insurance company stated: “The frenetic pace of life today means that speeding has become endemic in British society. People often don’t think about the dangers of driving a few miles an hour over the limit. But that can mean the difference between having a safe journey or a collision, and whether you survive or not.”
Neave furthered: “Like drink driving, speeding reduces a driver’s ability to judge hazards and to react to them. There needs to be a shift in people’s attitudes to speeding, so it becomes as socially unacceptable as drink driving.”
Neave’s comments are very true. It was exposed that on UK roads 244,770 people were injured or killed in road accidents. What is even more shocking is that those who admitted to speeding said they were not worried about it, because 43% of drivers slow down when they see a camera but then speed up straight after they pass the camera.
