The prestigious car manufacturer Audi, has created a system designed to allow its cars to communicate with traffic signals and inform drivers how fast they should be driving their car, in order to decrease the time they spend waiting on red lights. The Travolution system as it is referred to; sole ambition is to reduce congestion alongside saving fuel.

Trying to predict when a red light will occur will give the driver the ability to drive in a more fluid way and will remove the stop and start element of driving, which in effect uses up a lot more fuel and increases congestion considerably. It is not impossible to predict red lights on the road ahead, it is plain and simply a matter of scanning the road looking for information so to speak, however the Travolution system gives the most accurate information on what the traffic lights will do next.

Critcs have argued that drivers may become lazy if they rely on the the system and the implications on drivers car insurance if they have an accident at the lights.
