Aims to tackle uninsured motorists take place as drivers are urged to make sure they have car insurance.
The Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) intends to change people’s perceptions of driving without car insurance, it has been revealed.
According to figures from Direct Line, one in 20 drivers do not have car insurance.
Communications Assistant at the MIB, Lorraine Preston, said "In the coming months, the government and the insurance industry will be announcing the timetable for the introduction of Continuous Insurance Enforcement, the next key step in the fight against uninsured driving."
The determination of the MIB, police and governments intentions have previously had a “great deal of success” as over 350,000 uninsured vehicles had been seized. This makes the MIB, police and the government more determined to reduce the number of uninsured drivers off the road.
Meanwhile, council leader Henry Smith has announced that the scheme promoted by West Sussex County Council that drivers could be fined £20 for leaving their engines running at standstill, will not be going ahead.
He said, "Whilst I think it's right to remind motorists that switching off their engines when waiting at a level crossing is both better for the environment and saves fuel, authorities should be appealing to peoples' better nature rather than penalising them with fines."
