A new study by esure car insurance has revealed that many British drivers will not consider taking their cars off the road unless petrol prices hit an average of £1.75 per litre.
Although petrol currently costs about £1.15 per litre, the survey found that not many of the respondents were thinking of parking their cars and travelling around on buses or other means of public transportation.
Nearly a fifth of those interviewed said they were ready to pay as much as £2 per litre in order to remain on the road.
While 76 per cent expressed concerns over the rising costs of fuel, 47 per cent remained unmoved and insisted they would pay any price to avoid staying off the road.
The research also found that people aged between 35 and 54 are less likely to ditch their cars for public transport than younger motorists.
Head of risk and underwriting at esure, Mike Pickard commented that motorists in the UK value their cars highly.
But he advised them to introduce some changes like driving slowly, avoiding excessive breaking and switching off air conditioning or heating in other to save some costs and promote eco-friendly driving.
