Holidaymakers from the UK intending to drive abroad have been advised to make sure they take out adequate car insurance before heading off with their vehicle.
Spokesman for AA, Ian Crowder said that drivers often make the assumption that since their car insurance covers them fully while driving in the UK, they would also be fully covered within the EU.
“If you have an insurance policy in any EC country that policy will be valid at the minimum legal level in other countries that you might be visiting within the EC,” He explained, adding that those having comprehensive insurance in the UK will discover that it ‘s reduced to a third party cover in other countries.
Mr Crowder warned that drivers need to extend their insurance cover when they travel abroad or they may be forced to pay out a lot of money in recovery charges and transportation costs if they are involved in an accident.
