A poll issued by RoadPilot Ltd has concluded that 52% of people in the UK believe that warning signs are not adequate enough to tell them where cameras are positioned and over 30% always brake when they see a camera. 53% of drivers felt they were distracted by the devices.
Where cameras are meant to improve road safety this is obviously a concerning development, as it seems cameras enhance dangerous driving, as drivers are paying more attention to where a camera is than other cars. Drivers in Essex have been complaining that local police have been hiding the cameras behind other vehicles.
Drivers caught speeding can sometimes find that their car insurance premiums increase as a result. Although these results are concerning surely the key is not to blame the cameras themselves, and insurance will no doubt increase much more when a claim is made after an accident then if you are caught speeding in the first place.
