Insurance advice offered to young motorists - 19/03/2008

Young drivers have been given car insurance advice by providers.
Under-25s generally pay far higher car insurance premiums than other groups, due to the age group causing a proportionally higher number of road accidents.
Figures from the Association of British Insurers show that males under the age of 21 become involved in accidents ten times as often as the over-35s.
However, Jennifer Culley at RBS Insurance said that those young motorists gaining a Pass Plus award - an additional driving qualification - could potentially make significant savings on their car insurance.
"The benefit of the Pass Plus scheme is that it gives the policyholder a discount at the start of their time as a driver," she told the Daily Telegraph.
Ms Culley also advised youngsters to drive a light car with a small engine - as these vehicles cause a smaller amount of damage in accidents.
The newspaper also cited Pay As You Drive insurance, currently offered by providers such as Norwich Union, as a good way of reducing premiums.
Participants in the scheme are given discounts for driving in at less busy times of day - when they are less likely to become involved in a collision.
