A new MORI poll one of the leading independent research groups, has revealed the best value comaparison site for car insurance.
Moneysupermarket.com beat off competition from six of the leading comparison sites, including Tesco Compare, Confused, Gocompare, comparethemarket and Uswitch. It was found that they returned the lowest premiums for nearly twice as many profiles as its nearest rival, and almost six times more than the site ranked last.
The survey was compiled by hiring mystery shoppers to compare quotes across 100 different makes, models aages of car from postcodes throughout the nation at all 6 sites. It did not however, include many more minor groups or specialist firms, that often offer cheaper deals for particular types of vehicle or driver.
A spokesperson for Ipsos MORI said: "Findings from the mystery shopping exercise showed moneysupermarket.com is almost twice as likely to provide the cheapest annual premium for motor insurance compared with other leading comparison sites. In 42 out of 100 tests, it delivered the best, or equal to best, quote in terms of price: this is well ahead of its nearest rival."
Moneysupermarket.com was demonstrated to offer a broad range of cheapest quotes amongst the six, with a 15-year old Rover Maestro, a 2004 Maserati Spyder, 2005 BMW Z4 and a 2004 Fiesta, showing that it wasn't just targeting particular markets for savings.
