Zurich unveils 'road rage' study - 07/03/2008
|
Road rage attacks have affected 34 per cent of UK motorists, or over 10 million people. According to a study from car insurance provider Zurich, half of these attacks involved one driver making an obscene gesture to another. Less common incidents include tail-gating (48 per cent) and getting cut up (42 per cent). Even more worryingly, 15 per cent said that they had been actively chased by another motorist - and ten per cent said that this incident had escalated into the other driver getting out of their vehicle for a confrontation. In order to avoid falling victim to road rage, Zurich has advised drivers to take simple precautions such as making time for regular breaks in long road trips. Taking deep breaths in times of stress is also recommended by the car insurance firm. Commenting, director at Zurich Mike Quinton said: "Despite our love affair with the car, it is clear that the pressures of modern driving are increasingly adding to the nation's stress levels. "A stressed driver is more likely to be a dangerous driver, so we urge all motorists to take precautions if they feel the red mist descending."
