Car insurance-holding couples should always take out a joint policy when they move in together, Tesco said today.
The comments were made in the wake of new research from the car insurance provider, which shows that around two-thirds of cohabiting lovebirds fail to inform their insurer of the move.
Joint car insurance holds significant cost savings - averaging over £100 in the UK - over individual policies.
The Tesco study also revealed that 48 per cent of couples only notify their provider when they come to renew their car insurance.
A hard core of 17 per cent miss out on the savings entirely - by never informing their insurer.
In a sign of an increasingly competitive market, Tesco also announced today that it would be giving a £50 voucher to new car insurance customers.
The voucher can only be redeemed either in one of the firm's supermarkets or petrol stations, however.
