The industry body responsible for the risk in car security for insurance companies, Thatcham, has appointed a new chairman.
Bill Paton takes up the role in the organization which decides the car insurance premium for millions across Europe.
He currently holds the role of chief claims officer at Zurich, and in his new capacity as Thatcham chairman he will be responsible for leading a board consisting of 34 representatives of the research centre’s members.
The Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre’s main aim is to carry out research targeted at containing or reducing the cost of motor insurance claims, whilst maintaining safety standards.
All the representatives of the board belong to motor insurers, who jointly fund the research firm to the tune of £7.8m.
Peter Roberts, Chief Executive of Thatcham, welcomes this new appointment “Bill has been a member of the Thatcham Board for over 2 years, and brings with him a wealth of experience of the insurance and automotive sectors; the Thatcham management look forward to working with him.”
