esure: Shop around for an 08 plate bargain - 20/02/2008

Motorists on the lookout for a new 08 plate vehicle should drive a hard bargain with their dealer, car insurance specialists esure said today.
According to the car insurance firm, the apparently slowing economy has made shopping around for the best deal even more important.
A poll conducted by esure has shown drivers to be planning on tightening the purse strings - with 33 per cent even saying that they will spend less on their new car than they did on their previous one.
However, other evidence suggests that many feel inhibited about negotiating with their car dealer - with 78 per cent saying that they are more likely to haggle at a car boot sale, despite far less money being at stake.
Head of risk at the car insurance provider Mike Pickard said: "We're known for being a nation of bargain hunters and are always out to get the best deal - but when it comes to buying a new car so many motorists are failing to put the theory into practice."
He added: "It's crucial for all motorists looking to buy a new 08 plate to do their homework, shop around for the best deals and be both confident and clued-up in front of a salesperson - or else pay the price."
