Snow showers affecting much of the northern England and Scotland could cause car insurance claims to rise in numbers.
Sub-zero temperatures, predicted today and tomorrow by the Met Office, could lead to icy roads and reduced visibility for drivers - increasing road risks and car insurance claims.
The cold snap is caused by strong winds from Siberia - and might see some parts of the UK under a foot of snow.
Speaking to the Times, Helen Chivers at the Met Office said: "There will be frost and ice all over the country, and we are likely to see some flurries of snow."
She added: "We could finally have a white winter almost anywhere in the country because the temperatures will be low enough."
The Met Office advises that the coldest weather will be experienced today.
According to the Highways Agency, drivers should check the forecast and road conditions prior to any lengthly car journeys - and should not set out if they think it will be too dangerous.
