New car registrations on the up - 31/08/2007
|
Ahead of the new 57 number plates' introduction tomorrow, AA Deals on Wheels have released a report detailing some of the latest motor industry consumer trends. As driving without car insurance is illegal, there should also be a concurrent rise in purchases of car insurance cover.
The AA have detected a rising demand for new cars, with 33 per cent of those polled by the association saying that they are set to purchase a vehicle in the next year - up from 26 per cent last year.
This lies in contrast with the potential second-hand market - which is predicted to be down 16 per cent over the next twelve months.
Head of AA personal loans Lloyd East said: "As interest rates rise, UK consumers are beginning to tighten their purse strings. But our research shows strong consumer demand for new registration cars ahead of September 1st."
There are currently over 30 million cars on UK roads, with 2.3 million vehicles purchased last year by UK consumers.
