Brits 'leave gadgets in cars', Zurich says - 19/09/2007

Car insurance provider Zurich has warned that British cars are becoming attractive targets for thieves by drivers leaving expensive gadgets in their vehicles.
With luxury items such as DVD players and Sat Nav systems coming fitted as standard on new cars, the problem of vehicle break-ins is becoming more acute, Zurich says.
What is more, 85 per cent of Brits are making the problem worse by leaving items such as CDs and toys - with an average value of £145 - behind, research from the car insurance firm has found.
Roy Seeds, head of motor underwriting at Zurich Insurance said: "It's now common for our cars to be filled with our possessions - not just in-car entertainment and driving gadgets, but even clothes and designer accessories.
"We would urge people, wherever possible, not to leave valuables in their cars and, if they have no other option, ensure they are locked in the boot."
Predictably, younger motorists aged 18-24 left the most valuable things behind - worth an average of £200.
Male drivers were also found to leave around £40 more worth of gadgets in their vehicles than women.
