People attending the 2012 Olympics in London will not be able to travel to the game in their car as an estimated eight million people are expected to attend the games.
While drivers may initially find the driving ban aimed at encouraging public transport inconvenient, authorities will also scrap plans to introduce park-and-ride schemes on sections of the M25 and M11.
A mass exodus onto buses and trains would cause severe strain on the existing networks - but might have a positive impact on road safety due to clearer streets.
Car insurance premiums could also be safeguarded as a long-term consequence of the scheme, with more encouraged to use public transport more often.
With transport director of the Games Hugh Sumner saying "people won't be parking" near the games, drivers can forget any chance of using their car to travel to events.
The Times reported that up to 800,000 people will be attending the games each day - and with that amount of drivers on the road, people would most likely not have arrived at the games on time and increased their risk of damage to their cars.
There will be however 80,000 athletes, officials and media allowed to use certain roads to attend the games, creating further incentives for people to welcome the public transport system to the games in place of their own cars.
