Reuters: Petrol prices rise - 30/10/2007
|
Crude oil has been selling at unprecedentedly high prices on the global market - with forecourts across the world feeling the strain.
Petrol prices rose significantly during October, a Reuters survey has shown - with the full impact of the market upwards pressure yet to be felt.
The world's most expensive petrol - among the 35 nations polled at least - is currently being sold in Norway.
By contrast, oil giant Saudi Arabia came out near the bottom of the list.
The UK's petrol prices were pegged as the fourth highest on the continent - with per-litre prices rising by 2.5p for October to reach 97.7p.
In the world's largest economy the US - a key indicator for the rest of the world - prices registered a year-on-year rise of 28 per cent.
The Reuters survey follows an AA car insurance report covering the UK, released earlier this month, which detected a ten per cent year-on-year increase in premiums - raising the pressure on motorists still further.
Crude oil prices hit an all-time high of $93 per barrel earlier this week.
