With the Christmas and New Year's holidays just on the tips of people's tongues and already loosening the wallets of some, a more serious effect of the holiday season is about to begin.
Drink driving is a yearly problem that businesses and charity organisations work to alleviate, such as the Department of Health's Know Your Limits campaign in partnership with Diageo GB's The Choice is Yours campaign just in time for the holidays.
Not only could safer practices mean you and other motorists are spared an accident on the road, but it could also mean cheaper car insurance for drivers without a conviction.
Heritage Insurance proved the point by comparing before and after rates for car insurance coverage of certain customers who were forced to pay more car insurance after receiving a drink driving conviction.
The owner of a 1974 Triumph Stag was spending just £178.01 per year for insurance but was then forced to almost double that price to £274.35 after a conviction.
Even worse, the owner of a 2000 Lotus Elise paid £596.00 per year before, but after a failed breathalyser test was forced to pay the daunting price of £1,109.10 per year.
