An American insurance firm has been accused of keeping secret documents on how to underpay auto claims to keep profits.
Allstate Insurance, an American car insurance company, kept documents known as the McKinsey documents. These documents are now being sought by insurance investigators in Florida who’ve launched an investigation looking into the insurance firm’s claims-paying practices.
Whitney Buchanan, one attorney who has seen the McKinsey documents, says “These documents are devastating to them in bad faith litigation.”
David Berardinelli, a trial lawyer who has sued Allstate, alleges: “They are charging people for coverage that they’re never going to get. That is fraud.”
Allstate insists there is nothing wrong with its claim assessment process and that each claim is treated uniquely. According to its corporate governance policy, "Allstate has always had an exemplary governance program. Our commitment to strong principles and the highest ethical standards is critical to our goal of driving sustained shareholder value."
