More customers are buying their car insurance over the internet than ever before. Last year there was a 15% rise in the number of people searching for and buying their car insurance online. These statistics show that people have become more comfortable with handling the using the internet to buy insurance. In addition customers are becoming more proficient in handling the complex parts of their insurance quote over the web, with more people than ever visiting the policy management sections of the sites, in order to manage their insurance needs.
These trends have driven the internet insurance market forward, and more functionality has been added to sites to allow people to search for new quotes, buy online and service their accounts online. Fierce competition with policy pricing is now also the norm, as customers are able to search the ‘whole of the market' via an insurance search engine. But the benefits of using the web for handling peoples insurance needs also extend to the insurers who can lower costs by employing less staff.
