Male drivers pay hundreds of pounds more for their car insurance, industry experts report.
Recent research by moneysupermarket.com revealed the massive monetary discrepancy between male and female drivers.
Figures show that the difference is biggest between the genders when they are teenagers.
An 18-year old male driver is likely to pay up to £861 pounds more for his premium than a female motorist of the same age.
Female drivers continue to have to the advantage in their twenties and on average pay 16 per cent less for car insurance.
The price of premiums does not level out for the genders until they are in their fifties.
Moneysupermarket.com stated that young men pay more because of the incidents of accidents associated with them.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at the company, said: "Young and newly qualified drivers have long been perceived as high risk by the insurance industry and often find it hard to get competitive motor insurance.
"It's also clear that insurers view women as far more mature motorists at an earlier age."
