A report from Sainsbury's Finance shows a staggering 15 per cent of customers have knowingly given false personal information when trying to purchase car insurance policies.
The figures revealed that 1.12 million consumers had provided wrong or untruthful details when applying for some kind of insurance. 18 per cent of people supplying false information were in relation to home cover, 12 per cent gave false details when buying travel insurance, with just four per cent offering incorrect facts when purchasing pet insurance cover.
Head of Insurance at Sainsbury's Finance, Steve Johnson said, “Although it may seem like a good idea in an effort to save time, it could become a real headache later when they find they have invalidated their claim. We would always encourage people to always take the time to go back and check any details of policies.”
The report also included the excuses people had given for providing wrong information which included a lack of time, taking too long to find the correct details and attempting to get a cheaper policy.
