Many people, not just bikers, will be making plans to see their family and friends as the Christmas season draws closer. For many of us this will mean travelling over the boarder onto foreign soil. Whilst the festive season is a hectic time and it is easy to forget things, don’t let your insurance policy be one of them. Most travellers heading from the UK to another place in Europe will find the majority of UK insurance providers will automatically provide the minimum level of cover, usually at no extra cost.
The problem is for bikers in the UK who have higher insurance than a third party policy, for those with third party, fire and theft or fully comprehensive cover, to suddenly be downgraded to third party without knowing could have devastating effects. This could mean that if your bike was stolen whilst on foreign soil you would not be covered and not receive a penny to replace the cost of your motorbike.
This problem could be easily rectified with a quick call to your insurer letting them know your plans, many insurers offer an additional add on, that would be added to your current policy for the time you are out of the country covering you for any eventuality.
