An ongoing study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) displayed that anti-lock brakes could help bikers avoid fatal crashes. This is because bikes with anti-locks or ABS were involved with 38% less road accidents.
Adrian Lund, president of the IIHS stated: “Even though adding anti-locks won't make motorcycling as safe as going by car, it's something manufacturers can do to reduce the risk of travelling on two wheels instead of four.”
Rob Dinman president and CEO of the American Motorcyclist Association stated that the study showed promise but it points out the need for a “long-overdue” federal study of the causes of bike crashes.
Anti-lock brakes help motorcycle riders to stop their bikes quicker without locking up the wheels. The study revealed that these type of brakes reduced collision bike insurance claims and insurance losses were 21% lower for bikes with anti-lock brakes compared to those without.
