Bike Insurance - No lock, no lolly - 25/10/2008

A dispute is raging between Christopher Ridout and his bike insurance company who are refusing to pay out for his prized motorbike which was declared a write off after it was stolen from his doorstep and ‘totalled’. The £5,000 Triumph Tiger 955i was stolen from his home and taken for a spin after they had “swapped the number plates over” the police said. This was after the bike was involved in an accident with a Mazda 6 estate car.

Ridout is baffled as to why the company will not pay out as he had informed them at the time of taking out the policy that the bike would not be locked up. However, because the bike was not locked up, he is being accused of negligence and thus not entitled to any money. The police are trying very hard to get information from the public, appealing to them for any information on the theft as well as the crash.
