Bike Insurance - Park rider risks getting higher insurance premiums - 01/10/2008

A man from Plaistow, East London has been fined £80 and must also pay for damages that he caused, when he rode his motorbike through a local park.

John Ward from Newport Avenue received the fine at Stratford Magistrates’ court of £200 for breaking Parks and Open Spaces Byelaws, as he rode through the Canning Town Recreation Grounds.

Along with the fine, Mr Ward, now also risks having to pay higher bike insurance premiums, due to him receiving six points on his license as he was uninsured at the time of the incident.

Newham councillor June Leitch commented on Mr Ward's behavior, saying that it was "totally unacceptable and completely irresponsible".

She also said: "Parks and green spaces are enjoyed by families, many with very young children and it would be absolutely appalling if these motorcyclists were to cause an accident.”

Ms Leitch added: "We will not hesitate to prosecute anyone who flouts the law.”
