Motorcyclists in the UK, could benefit from cheaper bike insurance premiums, after the launch of a new advanced rider certificate.
The Enhanced Riders Scheme, being launched by the Driving Standards Authority (DSA), along with the Motorcycle Industry Association, is intended to reach and maintain the Government's target for road safety and minimise the number of accidents involving motorcyclists. Statistics show that bike riders are sixteen times more likely to be involved in an accident than a car driver.
Motorcyclists are needed to meet a set standard before they can get the DSA Certificate of Competence - Enhanced Riders Bonus. For the motorcyclists with weaknesses, they can receive tuition from instructors who work within the DSA.
Once drivers have received the Enhanced Riders standard, the can receive the insurance discount.
The scheme is set to begin next month and will see high speed exercises as well as off road aspects of riding. However the Motorcycle Rider Training Association, stated that the facilities for the new testing regime were not ready and called for the scheme s introduction to be postponed for another six months, to allow for the network of centres to be executed fully.
Jon Fitzpatrick said: "The Enhanced Riders Scheme is aimed at improving the road safety skills of bike and scooter riders already on the roads. We want to help qualified riders stay safe and reduce accidents at the same time."
