The UK economy today, with the increase in fuel prices, has led to more people wanting to turn to motorcycles in the future, according to motorcycledirect.co.uk.
The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) claimed that more people are viewing bikes as an alternative to using other vehicles including public transport as it acts as a cheaper and more practical option.
The MCIA encourages more people to choose this option as a means of fighting off the financial boom of the credit crunch.
Craig Carey-Clinch, of the MCIA said- “By emphasising the advantages of powered two wheelers, economic uncertainty should give the motorcycle industry an opportunity to get more people onto two wheels.”
He stated that motorcycles are easier to park, will easily beat congestion and most importantly can save time and money.
However, motorcyclists are 40 per cent more likely to be killed than other vehicle drivers.
According to motorinsurance.co.uk, motorcyclists make up for 20 per cent of the deaths and serious injuries on Britain’s roads yet account for only one per cent of the traffic.
The rise in popularity for motorcycles in the UK has led to an increase of driver safety. In April this year, the Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers (IHIE) put together an online package to improve the safety of motorcyclists.
Meanwhile, the MCIA revealed that a new scooter and motorcycle licence legislation will be coming into affect this October.
