Recently, there has been great warning with regard to the rivalry regarding motorcycling- serving as a reminder that all commuters on the motorbike should keep a keen eye out for the passage of cyclists. The same should be the polite consideration of vehicle drivers and pedestrians alike.
Upon the advent of the new advertising campaign - “Sorry mate I didn’t see you” reminds drivers to check carefully at junctions, which clearly rings the same bell of an earlier campaign urging car owners to “Think once, think twice ... think bike”, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) said.
Motorists and motorcyclists are encouraged to check mirrors constantly, in addition to clearing their blind spots, and make the necessary space for cyclists. This is because cyclists usually filter through the traffic, once they can do so safely. Taking these precautions into consideration would definitely serve as a prevention measure for accidents and lowers the numbers of insurance claims.
“By pulling over slightly, to one side or the other, you can make the difference between letting the biker past, or adding to the congestion,” the IAM said.
Last week, Only Kent reported that over a million pounds worth of car insurance claims are made every hour in the UK, mainly as a result of driver error.
