A Lancashire trials bike driver, who had not taken out the appropriate insurance for his vehicle, has been fined by a magistrates' court after a collision with a car.
The incident, which took place in a supermarket car park in the town of Darwen, has cost 24-year-old Christopher O'Brien £315 in a fine and costs.
He is also obliged to do 100 hours unpaid work due to the incident, following his guilty plea.
It emerged during the trial that Mr O'Brien had not only been contravening the law due to his inappropriate insurance, but had also been previously disqualified from driving it by authorities.
Addressing the court, Mr O'Brien's lawyer, Rachel Adamson, said that her client had bought the trials bike for off-roading rather than for using it on the streets.
The defendant had also previously stated that he had been freewheeling prior to the incident because he thought that leaving the engine switched off meant that he was not doing anything illegal.
"He believed that
he wasn't committing an offence," Ms Adamson claimed.
