Bikers have always been less likely than car owners to find more competitive insurance quotes but the rise in comparison websites is showing evidence that this is changing.
Comparison websites such as insurancewide, gocompare, moneysupermarket and confused all offer easy to use and transparent service to bikers that offer cheaper bike insurance.
Bike insurance in the past had such a small, niche market and had far more variables to consider than car quotes. As a result it was easier to confuse customers or take advantage of the fact that they had few other options.
Office Administrator Paul Eversley,45, saved £20 by simply going online, he claims that by using the internet his premiums have fallen by £239 over the last five years.
He said: "I've ridden a bike since I was 18 and in the early days insurance was cripplingly expensive, but the market has become much more competitive now and price have fallen.
It is much easier to find cover online."
Paul, today just pays £61 a year for third-party fire and theft on his Yamaha Thundercat 600 bike with Zenith insurance, a tailor-made policy that would have evaded his radar if it wasn't for a price comparison website.
